It is great to be back in Year 1 after the Easter break.
This term we are having a science focus, learning about plants and animals. We have planted some strawberries, potatoes and tomatoes and will be observing them closely!
We have explored what plants need in order to grow and have labelled their different parts. We have also been learning about animals and what they need in order to grow, discussing the difference between wild animals and household pets. We will also be investigating the different groups of animals (mammals, insects, etc).
To help us to learn about animals, we are also hoping to have a virtual visit to Beeches Farm in Carlisle with a view to actually visiting later in the term.
We have chosen a book filled with animals to focus on in English too - 'Giraffe's Can't Dance' by Giles Andreae. We have been using conjunctions such as 'so' and 'because' to join sentences together, exploring the feelings of characters in the story, and also finding rhyming words in the text.
