Everyone Matters

Spring Last Academic Year 2023

Welcome back to another exciting term of exploring and learning in Reception!

We have begun our learning by exploring the season of Winter.  What are the signs of Winter?  What might we do in the Winter time?  What clothes do we wear?  We have enjoyed investigating ice and snow outside and through experiments in the classroom.

In Literacy we have read ‘A Perfect Day for it’ and enjoyed making our own story maps and retelling the story in lots of different ways.

In phonics we are learning diagraphs (2 letters that make one sound) and tri-graphs (3 letters that make one sound)  We are learning to recognise these and then read and write them within words.

In Numeracy we are exploring numbers 6 – 10.  We are combining groups of objects to find a total.  We took part in the NSPCC Number Day and enjoyed playing number games, making our own number hat and going on a number hunt around the big garden.

In PE we are learning a dance so we have been practising moving in time to the music and putting movements together to make a sequence.  We also have a coach where we play lots of fun and energetic games building up our fitness and movements skills.

We took part in the RSPB Big Bird Watch.  We found out the names of different birds and made our own bird feeders.

As part of National Story telling week we enjoyed reading with the year 2 children.

Have a look at the photographs to see what we have been busy learning .....
